ARC awards Hwy 78
CID corridor
grant
SNELLVILLE: The Atlanta Regional Commission today announced that the Hwy 78
Community Improvement District will receive one of the first ever
LCI corridor
grants. The $93,750 ARC grant will focus attention on a 2.5 mile section of the
U.S. 78 corridor from McGee Road in Snellville to Killian Hill Road in Gwinnett
County.
CID Chairman Kenny King said, “We are most appreciative that the Atlanta
Regional Commission recognizes the regional significance of Hwy 78 and joins
with our other partners Georgia DOT, Gwinnett County and the City of Snellville
in supporting steps to secure a vibrant future for all those that work, live or
travel on the corridor.”
Preliminary plans are underway to kick-off the
LCI corridor study in late March
with completion by year end. Amenities within the study area include the E.R.
Snell recreational facility on McGee Road; Mountain View Village, a planned
mixed-use development on Highpoint Road; and the Killian Hill commercial node,
the strongest performing retail sector along the 7-mile corridor. The Hwy 78 CID
will match the ARC grant with $31,250 in local funds bringing the total study
budget to $125,000. Once complete, the ARC may provide implementation funds to
construct transportation improvements and enhancements identified during the
study process.
Hwy 78 CID Executive Director Brett Harrell added, “This LCI corridor study will
link to and expand the work underway within the City of Snellville’s Town Center
LCI area as well as Georgia DOT’s median project and the CID’s Landscape Master
Plan.” Harrell concluded, “This is an exciting time for U.S. 78, interest and
support for our efforts to revitalize, beautify, and improve mobility on the
corridor is strong from the local businesses and residents to our City, County,
and Regional leaders and all the way to Washington too. With this type of
enthusiastic support, the future is indeed bright for Hwy 78.”
