The Georgia Department of
Transportation (Georgia DOT) work crews will soon begin
a roadside and safety enhancement
project on US 78 in Gwinnett and DeKalb counties.
DOT crews will begin working in
early August 2005. The anticipated completion date for
the project is April 2006. The
project encompasses 9.940 miles of roadway along US 78
from Orion Drive in DeKalb County
to East Park Place in Gwinnett County. Crews will
begin working on the westward end
(Orion Drive) and move eastward. The project is to
include milling, new striping and
pavement markings, and guardrail replacement.
Crews will work throughout daytime
hours; however, there will also be a need for some
lane closures during off-peak
hours. There will be no lane closures on holidays or
from
November 25, 2005 through January
1, 2006. In the project area, roadside shoulders will
be closed from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30
p.m. for motorist safety. Georgia DOT encourages
motorists to plan alternate routes
through this project area, to allow extra travel time in
anticipation of traffic delays,
and to drive slowly and cautiously through the work
zone.
