President signs Highway Bill
Bill
includes $10.1 million for Hwy 78
Conferees
have reported out a revised Federal Highway Bill at
$286.4 billion over five years that guarantees a rate of
return to Georgia of 92% (up from 90.5%). The bill had
previously been
extended ten times since TEA-21 originally expired in
September 2003. Both the House and the Senate have supported the Conference Committee Report.
U.S.
Congressman John Linder led the effort in the House to
secure funding for Hwy 78 in the bill. Congressman
Linder gained inclusion of substantial funding for
construction of infrastructure for inter-parcel access,
median upgrades, lighting, and beautification along the
Highway 78 corridor. Congressman
David
Scott joined in support of U.S. 78 and placed additional
funding in the bill for the Hwy 78 Corridor Improvement
District.
Senator
Johnny Isakson, a member of the Conference Committee,
worked to protect and enhance the U.S. 78 earmark by
placing additional funds in the bill through the
Conference Committee process. H.R. 3 - the Federal
Highway Bill passed both the U.S. House and U.S. Senate
on July 29, 2005 and includes $10.1 million for Hwy 78.
President Bush signed the bill on August 10.
