Reversible Lane System and Widening Project
GAINESVILLE
– Georgia DOT announces site work will start Wednesday,
September 12th on the project to remove the reversible lane
system and widen US 78 in Gwinnett County.
“We have
worked on this project for over a decade and we are thrilled
that site work will begin Wednesday if weather permits on the
reconstruction of US 78,” explained Teri Pope, DOT
Communications Officer. “This project will change the way people
in Northeast Georgia travel. It will allow more people to flow
through the corridor and allow them to travel through the region
more efficiently. We are excited to get started.”
The
projected completion date is November 30, 2009 and its cost is
over $31 million. Some of the features of the project include:
- Improved pedestrian access
throughout the corridor with sidewalks on each
side of US 78 and benches along the corridor
- Internally illuminated
street signs
- Decorative black mast arms
to support traffic signals
- Three lanes in each
direction of US 78
- Removal of the reversible
lane system
“Throughout
the project DOT has partnered with Gwinnett County, the City of
Snellville and the Evermore CID. Together we are hosting a
Groundbreaking Ceremony

East Shopping Center located at 5295 US 78. Please come and
celebrate with us and find out more about the project,” Pope
