Public Information Open House
Well attended for
proposed U.S. 78 area transportation projects

The Georgia Department of Transportation
(GDOT) and Evermore Community Improvement District (CID) held a
Public Information Open House (PIOH) on March 27, 2008 at Snellville
City Hall. The informational forum was an opportunity for
interested businesses and residents to learn about three proposed
transportation improvement projects within the Evermore community.
Over 140 individuals attended the open
house to learn about the proposed projects. Under consideration are
two new parallel streets that allow for inter-parcel access between
Hewatt Road and Britt Drive and from Rockbridge Road to Davis Road.
The third potential project is an intersection realignment of McGee
Road and Cambridge Street with the existing signal on U.S. 78.
GDOT displayed detailed project exhibits
complete with diagramed maps for all three proposed projects.
Attendees also received Project Fact Sheets and comment forms. GDOT
officials, project managers, Evermore CID representatives and
project consultants were available for one-on-one consultations, and
a court reporter was available for individuals who wished to provide
verbal comments for the official record.
Attendees
were inquisitive, proactive with suggestions, and receptive to the
project specific details as explained by GDOT officials. Robert
Mahoney, GDOT District Preconstruction Engineer, recognizes that
many public misconceptions can arise with transportation projects
and indicates that the PIOH forums are a great opportunity for
clarification.
Additional opportunities for public
input are available for those who were unable to attend the PIOH.
GDOT is displaying the project exhibits at the District 1 office in
Gainesville and provided the Evermore CID exhibits for display in
Snellville until the written input deadline on April 10, 2008.
Gwinnett County District 3 Commissioner
Mike Beaudreau attended to better familiarize himself with each
project and to gain additional insights from his constituents. Also
attending was Snellville Mayor Jerry Oberholtzer, who is extremely
excited about the intersection realignment project and the improved
safety and mobility benefits for the City of Snellville.
GDOT, Gwinnett DOT and the Evermore CID
are pleased that both business owners and citizens provided many
positive suggestions and comments at the PIOH. Evermore CID
Executive Director Brett Harrell explains, “The proposed projects
will improve safety, mobility, and access while providing
alternatives for local trips that reduce congestion and conflicts on
U.S. 78”.
Thorough summaries and details for all
three proposed projects are available at the Evermore CID website at
www.EvermoreCID.org and the GDOT website at
